On Monday 4 April 2022, the European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Johannes Hahn, paid a working visit to Luxembourg.
During his visit, Commissioner Hahn met with Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, for an interview at the Mansfeld building (Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs) in Luxembourg-Ville.
Minister Asselborn and Commissioner Hahn took stock of the presence of the European Commission in Luxembourg, as well as of the work of the high-level group bringing together the European institutions, agencies and bodies established in the Grand Duchy, initiated by the European Commissioner for Budget and Administration.
Minister Asselborn expressed his that Luxembourg is the seat of many European institutions and reiterated his wish to see the presence of the European Commission in Luxembourg further consolidated. He stressed the importance for the Commission to fully implement the commitments made under the Asselborn-Georgieva agreement, which provides for a strengthening of the Commission's presence in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg's Foreign Minister welcomed the results of the high-level group of which Commissioner Hahn informed him, reiterating the Luxembourg authorities' determination to guarantee, in close consultation and cooperation with the European institutions and agencies in the Grand Duchy, the best conditions for reception, accommodation and work.
In this context, Minister Asselborn also called on Commissioner Hahn to put forward potential solutions to compensate for the difference in the cost of living between the European headquarters cities of Luxembourg and Brussels (Belgium).
