On Sunday 3 April 2022, the emergency services received a call shortly after 18:00, reporting a roof fire in a block of apartments in Grevenmacher. 

The initial information from the firefighters on site reported a widespread fire with many people being evacuated.  Nearly 60 firefighters from six fire and rescue centres fought for several hours to extinguish the blaze which was declared under control around 22:00. The Operational Technological Support Group (GATO) with drone expertise was also on site to support the Commander of the relief operations.

A total of 31 people had been evacuated from the premises, 29 of whom passed through the hands of the CGDIS and SAMU Luxembourg teams for checks, while two patients were transferred to hospital. Relocation was organised by the municipality.

Extinguishing and control work continued until late at night.
