On Thursday 17 March 2022, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL), spoke with Vitali Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv, over the telephone about the war in Ukraine.

During this phone call, Mayor Polfer assured her Kyiv counterpart of the solidarity of the City of Luxembourg with the Ukrainian capital and strongly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On behalf of the VdL municipal council, Mayor Polfer confirmed the will of the City of Luxembourg to do everything possible to assist Ukrainian refugees during these difficult times: while many Ukrainians have already arrived in Luxembourg, the capital is continuing its efforts to provide them with emergency accommodation facilities.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko thanked Ms Polfer for her words of solidarity and the support of the City of Luxembourg.

The phone call ended in the mutual hope that a diplomatic solution could quickly end the war. Both parties intend to continue their exchange in the near future.
