ATM explosion in Bascharage; Credit: Police Grand-Ducale

The Grand Ducal Police have reported that an automated teller machine (ATM) in Bascharage was blown up in the early hours of Friday 18 March 2022.

At around 02:45 on Friday, unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM, stole the money inside and then fled in a vehicle. The incident occurred on Avenue de Luxembourg in Bascharage, near a large shopping centre.

Due to the force of the explosion, debris was thrown in the air and a fire started at the ATM. Firefighters managed to put out the fire and nobody was injured in the incident.

The public prosecutor's office was informed and ordered the criminal police to secure evidence and investigate the crime scene.

In this context, the police are looking for witnesses who can provide information about the perpetrators and their escape as well as the getaway car, a white Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
