On Monday 28 February 2022, the Grand Ducal Police announced that the Luxembourg Army had successfully defused an aircraft bomb from WWII discovered earlier in the day.
The explosive device was neutralised by the army's Service de Déminage (SEDAL) at around 16:55 in a controlled detonation.
The bomb was discovered in the immediate vicinity of the Büchler Bridge just before noon during expansion work on the Luxembourg central station (Gare) premises.
For security reasons, circulation of all trains in central station was suspended and the station as well as nearby area were evacuated.
During the defusing work, all traffic around the bomb site was blocked and all train traffic was interrupted.
The national railway company, the CFL, announced gradual resumption of train traffic from 18:00 onwards, however some delays and cancellations may still occur.
