From 8 to 14 November 2021, the Grand Ducal Police carried out a total of 115 checks to ensure compliance with the provisions of the current COVID-19 legislation.
The main focus of these checks was on the application of the CovidCheck system in bars and restaurants as well as at events that were organised under the CovidCheck regime.
Police found CovidCheck violations in a total of eight establishments across the hospitality sector. For example, in some restaurants the operators had reportedly not carried out any checks on the CovidCheck certificates of guests; in others, employees did not possess such a certificate.
Moreover, ten individuals received fines for failing to comply with the applicable regulations.
As part of the controls, the police officers also discovered some false "CovidCheck" certificates. Corresponding reviews are ongoing. The Grand Ducal Police recalled that anyone using a forged document or who provides such a document should expect legal consequences.
These police checks form part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus. Officers are currently monitoring the application of the new legal provisions that entered into force on 1 November 2021. This police presence is expected to be both preventive and repressive in nature and focuses in particular on the hospitality sector as well as on events, especially on weekends.
