Following two days of incessant rainfall across the Grand Duchy, Luxembourg's Ministry of the Interior, together with the High Commission for National Protection and the Crisis Communication Service have confirmed that, at the request of Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, the Crisis Staff met at midnight last night and again this morning, chaired by Interior Minister Taina Bofferding, to take stock of the bad weather situation.

Throughout the night, teams from different entities intervened on numerous occasions across the country.

Given the magnitude of the situation and the scale of the cases, the CGDIS teams were forced to focus on securing people in danger, as well as protecting critical and strategic infrastructure. The Bridges and Roads Administration had to intervene on about sixty occasions. Many sections of the road had to be closed to traffic due to severe flooding.

Although the weather situation has calmed down in the meantime, the risk of rising levels in some rivers persists throughout the day. Information on the evolution of water levels is regularly updated on www.inondations.lu.

It is recommended for members of the public to remain vigilant and not to expose oneself to danger.

Assessment of the situation on 15 July 2021 at 09:00:

• CGDIS and Police teams carried out more than 1,200 weather-related interventions across the country.
• CGDIS interventions mainly consisted of rescuing or securing people in distress.
• No injured person has been reported at this point.
• Material damage is significant.
• 110 sections of road were blocked. The Bridges and Roads Administration teams are working to their maximum capacity. Motorways are cleared, but road traffic may still be disrupted in some areas. The army is providing support for the clean-up work.

Additional precipitation throughout the day (up to 10 l / m2) is to be expected, as well as occasional thunderstorms locally. Tonight there may possibly be additional precipitation of up to 10 l / m2.

The public is asked to remain vigilant and to respect all the instructions and injunctions of the local authorities, and to call tel: 112 only if people are in distress, in a life-threatening emergency, accident or fire.
