In celebration of the historic links between Luxembourg and Ethiopia, and to mark the 100th anniversary of the visit to the Grand Duchy by the Regent of Ethiopia Ras Tafari Makonnen, the future Emperor Haile Selassie I, works by Ethiopian and Luxembourg artists are on display at Cercle Cité from Thursday 9 January 2025 until Saturday 11 January 2025.

The event, organised by the Honorary Consulate of Ethiopia and NGO Regards d'Enfants d'Éthiopie, in collaboration with the City of Luxembourg, features pieces by Luxembourg artists, Marie-Pierre Trauden, René Wiroth, Gast Michels, Michèle Frank Oriane Bruyat, Gist Grass, Martina Oile-Zahles and Roger Dornseiffer, as well as works by Ethiopian artists Hailu Kifle, Mekdes Habte, Kirubel Melke, Meharo Teshome, Tesla Solomon, Ejigayehu Tesfaye Verri, Hailu Kifle, Birhanu Manaye, Yoseph Seboska, Samson Kebede and Ribka Wondimagegn.

Tastefully displayed across two floors, the exhibit showcases a variety of modern pieces presented in a variety of styles, ranging from abstract to graphic-based, as well as utilising various mediums, such as print, fabric and sculpture.

The centrepiece of the exhibit, installed on the second floor, features gifts presented to the Luxembourg royal family by the regent, along with photos taken throughout his life and during his time in the Grand Duchy.

Entrance to the exhibit is free of charge; 25% of the proceeds from sales of the works on display will be donated to the NGO Regards d’Enfants d’Éthiopie.
