On Tuesday 7 May 2019, the Luxembourg Army swore in 32 volunteer soldiers at the "Parc Housen" education and sports centre in Hosingen.

This occasion, the oath of the 33rd session of recruits, marked the completion of the four-month basic training for these volunteer soldiers. This phase prepares recruits for their military training, which continues for 36 months. Of a total of 52 recruits, 32 successfully completed basic training, corresponding to a success rate of 62%.

On the occasion of this ceremony, in the presence of Minister of Defence François Bausch, a medal of recognition was awarded to members of the Luxembourg contingents deployed during the years 2017 and 2018 in Mali and Lithuania, as well as to foreign soldiers.

In addition, a foreign officer was appointed to the rank of "Commander in the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg".
