On Friday afternoon, the Luxembourg Cabinet approved a draft regulation on online journalism and the legal professions.
The Cabinet meeting, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, once again focused on international and European affairs. The Ministers first reviewed the current situation of African swine fever before discussing the matter of online journalism.
Concerning the latter, the Cabinet endorsed a draft regulation on the transitional e-journalism promotion regime and repealed the regulation of 16 March 2018 on the transitional promotion regime for online journalism. The new text contained some improvements to the previous regulation.
On this occasion, ministers similarly agreed with the transposition of an EU Directive of the European Parliament and Council of 26 October 2016 on legal aid for suspects and accused persons in criminal proceedings and for persons whose surrender is requested in the framework of the procedures relating to the European arrest warrant, as well as the transposition of certain provisions of the EU Directive of 25 October 2012 laying down minimum standards for the rights, support and protection of victims of crime. The latter replaces Framework Decision 2001/220 / JHA of the Council. Finally, the new text encompassed the amendment of the amended law of 10 August 1991 on the profession of lawyer.
The main objective of this draft law is to transpose the EU Directive of 26 October 2016 on legal aid for suspects and accused persons in criminal proceedings and for persons requested for remission proceedings and certain provisions of the EU Directive of 25 October 2012 laying down minimum standards on rights, support victims of crime and replacing Council Framework Decision 2001/220 / JHA.
The Cabinet also approved the draft Grand Ducal Regulations establishing protection zones around groundwater catchments located on the territories of the municipalities of Mersch, Helperknapp, Kehlen, Saeul, Habscht, Helperknapp, Larochette, Nommern, Ernz Valley, Fischbach, Mersch, Beaufort, Reisdorf, Bech, Consdorf, Echternach, Rosport-Mompach, Ettelbruck, Feulen, Ell and Schuttrange.
