The new Echternach Fire and Rescue Centre (Centre d’incendie et de secours - CIS) was inaugurated on Friday 26 January 2017, following its commissioning at the end of December; it replaces the old structure located on the Route de Luxembourg which had become unsuited to the needs of the rescue services.
The 2,100 m2 building is located at the "Nonnemillen-Center" and consists of a large building accommodating 16 vehicles, a washing area, a pipe tower, a command post, workshops for the maintenance of breathing apparatus, various storage rooms, cloakrooms and a kitchen with a living room. On the upper floor, there is a living and training room for young firefighters, three guard rooms, four offices and additional premises.
Following the territorial reorganisation and categorisation of fire and rescue centres, the CIS Echternach is part of the category 3 centres and will be reinforced by professional staff who Will support volunteers to ensure availability at all times.
Luxembourg's Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, congratulated the city aldermen for providing the municipality with a modern and efficient structure for the benefit of its citizens. The Minister also welcomed the commitment of volunteers to the service of others: "Volunteers will continue to be the foundation of the rescue services, and I thank you for this unfailing commitment to your fellow citizens", emphasised The Minister.
