On Saturday 14 November 2015, Luxembourg Minister of Health, Lydia Mutsch, inaugurated the 6th edition of 'Cardio Sports Day', organised by the Association Luxembourgeoise des Groupes Sportifs pour Cardiaques (ALGSC) association.
The objective of the event was to inform the public and authorities of the possibilities offered by the association in the field of prevention and rehabilitation for people experiencing, or having gone through, heart disease. The ALGSC association has been putting a secondary prevention programme into place for the last thirty years, to combat a disease which figures as the most common in the Grand Duchy.
In her speech, the Health Minister acknowledged the various initiatives presented by the association, stating "The ALGSC is present along the whle continuum of information, promotion of cardiovascular health, and prevention in the field of cardiac incidents. It is undoubtedly an important vector for what our Anglo-Saxon colleaguess call 'patient empowerment'."
However, Minister Mutsch claimed that "challenges still remain ahead".
"Our health policy must continue its efforts in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and their consequences," concluded the Minister. "Also our health system must ensure the further improvement of the fate of any patient who suffered a cardiac event by providing support throughout their experience. It is by working together that we will get there!"
