Yesterday evening around 90 police and customs units carried out a major police control as part of the EU-wide police action Lux-Car.
The search took place along the A6, directiong Belgium-Luxembourg, between 20:00 and 01:00. The initiative was held under the Luxembourg Presidency as part of LUX-Car, a police and customs action in which 25 Member States are quasi-involved.
The idea behind LUX-Car is to combat cross-border crime, including vehicle theft, human trafficking, drug smuggling and other offenses.
The police check resulted in a total 109 vehicles, around 190 people, being searched. One individual was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant, whilst 1.3 grams of heroin and 70 grams of marijuana and hashish were seized.
The large-scale action was supported from the operations room in The Hague by Europol specialists, as well as the Interpol Task Force. German, Belgian, French and Luxembourg police and customs officers also worked together to carry out the action.
