President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Henri Malosse, was in the Grand Duchy today to meet with Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, for an exchange of views on the economic and social challenges that the European Union (EU) will face in coming years.
At the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg, discussions among the two politicians centered around the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) treaty between the EU and the US and the future structure of the Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI).
The EESC groups together European economic and social partners in order to provide a central institutional platform for the appraisal of European socio-economic sectors, and Minister Asselborn used the opportunity of a meeting with its President to outline the priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU.
One facet of the Luxembourg Presidency has been cited as the enriching of the social dimension of the EU, before reviewing the work programme of the European Commission.
