The Grand Ducal Police yesterday revealed that a total of 21 thefts have been reported at the Schueberfouer since the fair opened on Friday 21 August 2015.

It most commonly found that pickpockets would seize on an opportunity when the target was not paying proper attention to their surroundings to sneak wallets, mobile phones and other valuables from their bag or pocket.

From 28 to 30 August 2015, four wallets and purses were stolen and two mobile phones were taken. The annual Schueberfouer presents an ideal opportunity for petty theft, as the large crowds it attracts provide optimal cover for pickpockets, whilst the sights and sounds act as perfect distractions to draw attention away from the crime taking place.

The police have therefore advised fair-goers to bring bags that can be firmly closed and to avoid having wallets and other valuable items worn visibly on their person.
