Monday evening saw the ever-popular Eve of the National Day celebrations take place across the Grand Duchy.
The weather was unkind to Luxembourg city where traditionally revellers party in the streets, listen and watch live music on stages, and DJs too, as well as visit the many food and beverage stalls, before gathering for the fireworks at around 23:00.
The Grand Ducal family also got in on the party atmosphere, with HRH the Grand Duke and H.R.H, the Grand Duchess, along with other members of the Grand Ducal family in attendance from across the Pétrusse valley from the Place de la Constitution to witness the traditional torchlit procession. Hundreds of people, includng many children, from clubs and associations from Luxembourg city, took part; it was followed by the Military Music’s marching band.
After a series of showers, the sky was illuminated by the traditional fireworks which were launched from the Fort Thüngen (Three Acorns) in Kirchberg - without the music this year - but always marking the celebration of the Eve of the National Day with a great bang.
The night was long and lively, with many establishments in the city traditionally enjoying the best night's takings of the year. It was not long afterwards, though, when the street cleaners were out, ensuring a spotless city centre for the actual National Day on Tuesday.
