On Friday, the government cabinet annoucned that it will bid to become European Capital of Culture for 2022.

Previously Luxembourg has held this honour in 1995 and in 2007; the 2022 bid will be initiated in July when a call for applications will be launched; the government has already started preparatory work in this regard.

In April last year, the EU announced framework details for the allocation of European Capitals of Culture for years 2020 to 2033.
