On Thursday 24 September 2015, Cercle Cité will be hosting the opening to a new exhibition entitles "Je est un(e) autre".
Commissioned by Lucien Kayser, the exhibition will feature works by Katharina Sieverding, Collectif Autour du Bleu, Doris Drescher, Marie-France Dublé, Germaine Hoffmann, Sophie Jung, Patricia Lippert, Berthe Lutgen, Stéphanie Rollin & Davus Brognon, Trixi Weis and Vera Weisgerber.
The title of the exhibition, 'Je suis un(e) autre', refers to a sentence written by French poet Arthur Rimbaud in a letter to Paul Demeny in May 1871. It refers to the construction of the subjective self, the 'I', at a time when identity in its national, ethnic and sexual form was becoming subverted and instable.
The exhibition has therefore collated the works of these female artists as a means of confronting the question of the 'self' and encouraging visitors to their own consideration.
The exhibition will be displayed in the Ratskeller upper room and will open at 18:00 on Thursday 24 September. Visitors will also have the option to take a free guided tour every Saturday at 11:00, or a free guided tour with the commissioner at 11:00 on Saturday 3 October and Saturday 7 November, the latter of which will be accompanied by a wine tasting in collaboration with Domaine Bastian.
