The first edition of the ING Unseen Talent Award, which will provide an international platform on which new photographers in Benelux can showcase their work, features as a finalist Luxembourgish artist Sophie Jung.
Unseen is an annual international photography fair held in the Dutch city of Amsterdam, with the 2015 edition offering 54 international galleries highlighting contemporary work by emerging talent and unseen pieces by established artists in the field of photography.
ING Art Management and Unseen reported that, drawing on a list of artists put together by a committee of professional photographers from the Benelux region, they have selected five finalists who have been presented with a specially designed programme with which they will create pieces based on this edition's theme of 'Who Are We Here For?'
Included in the programme is coaching and advice from internationally-renowned Dutch artist Rineke Dijkstra, as well as a series of workshops with professional photographers. The new talents' creations will be showcased to the international community at Unseen Photo Fair 2015.
Among the finalists is Sophie Jung, a well known Luxembourg artist who draws on a range of techniques and media, including video, photography , installations and even performance, to create entertaining stories and a solid conceptual thread.
Sophie Jung will be among the five hopefuls vying to be winner of the ING Unseen Talent Award and recipient of a cash prize of €10,000. An international jury will announce the winner on 17 September when the fair officially opens, whilst the recipient of the Prix du Public, voted for online from the beginning of September, will also be revealed and asked to create new pieces for the ING collection.
All the finalists will have their works displayed in Neimënster in May 2016, whilst the ING Unseen Talent Award winner will receive an area dedicated solely to their exhibition. All the exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public.
