Tuesday 4 August saw the official opening of the 'Gare Art Festival' - an outdoor sculpture exhibition in Place de Paris of Luxembourg City's Gare district.

2015 marked the 15th anniversary of the workshop event, which has grown since 2001 when the first experimental sculpture exhibition took place, displaying the wood carvings of a dozen artists on Place de Paris and the station forecourt. The following year saw the project evolve further, with around 120 tonnes of sand deposited on the Gare forecourt, which were then transformed into works of art by four groups of two professional sculptors, to the interest of passers-by.

The festival developed more and more with each passing year, and has contonued to present an opportunity for the public to meet and mingle with the artists of Luxembourg, including: Jhemp Bastin; Manon Bertrand; Marco Bustamante; Heather Carroll; Gérard Claude; Tom Flick; Yvette Gastauer; Nora Gastauer; Florence Hoffmann; Marie-Josée Kerschen; Katarzyna Kot-Bach; Kingsley Ogwara; Michel Schiltz; Wouter Vandervlugt and Nathalie Zlatnik.

This year's sculptors began their work at the Place de Paris on Friday 31 July 2015, and the six resident and foreign artists gathered on Tuesday 4 August 2015 to present their pieces, which were developed in the chosen material of concrete, to representatives of the Ministry of Culture.

Minister of Culture Maggy Nagel congratulated the participating sculptors of the 15th edition, expressing her appreciation for the fact that the artists had left their workshops and had produced their works in an urban setting where everybody could appreciate them.

The sculptures will be available for public viewing in the building of the Gare Centrale from Saturday 8 August 2015.
