Over 14 and 15 September 2015, Ministers of Agriculture will gather in the Grand Duchy for an informal meeting under the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On Monday 14 the ministers will partake of cultural visits in the north of the country, before meeting in the European Convention Centre Luxembourg the following day.
The convention will act as a follow-up to the exchange of views which took place during the extraordinary meeting of the Agriculture Council, wherein ministers voiced their concernts abour recent developments in a range of agricultural sectors such as the dairy industry, which has recently been the subject of strikes by farmers in Luxembourg who rallied against falling milk prices.
In response to issues faced by these sectors the Commission proposed a package of measures intended to help tackle cash-flow difficulties currently faced by farmers, to stabilise markets and to address the functioning of the supply chain. The ministerial meeting on Tuesday 15 will focus on 'Evolution of the Markets - a Further Examination of the Package'.
Luxembourg's Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection, Fernand Etgen and the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan will be in attendance at the meeting.
