On Monday 17 August 2026, Luxembourg-headquartered steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal confirmed that two of their employees died and thirteen employees and contractors sustained injuries in a missile strike on its ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plant in Ukraine over the weekend.

According to the company, one of those killed was an ArcelorMittal employee and the other worked for a contractor. Those affected by the strike are receiving medical care in facilities in the city.

ArcelorMittal said: "Our focus is on the families and loved ones of our colleagues who suffered from the attack."

The plant was operational at the time of the strike. The attack damaged the main production facilities in the energy and blast furnace operations and partially halted production processes at the plant, explained the company.

Specialists are currently assessing the extent of the damage, as well as the possibilities and timeframe for restoring operations.

ArcelorMittal said it would provide further updates in due course.
