On Monday 25 May 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs reported on the working visit to Athens by Minister for Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, which took place from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 May 2026.
According to the ministry, during his bilateral meeting with the Minister for Migration and Asylum of the Hellenic Republic, Thanos Plevris, discussions focused on current migration challenges and the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum. This exchange also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of close cooperation between national authorities and international organisations in addressing migration challenges in the Mediterranean and across Europe.
Minister Gloden also met with Laura Lo Castro, the representative in Greece of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as well as Ms Sanja Čelebić Lukovac, Head of Mission in Greece of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In addition, Minister Gloden held discussions with a Luxembourgish officer seconded to the Frontex agency mission in Greece.
The ministry said: “The work of international organisations, both in managing migration flows at the European Union’s external borders and in providing humanitarian assistance on the ground, is essential.”
