From Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 April 2026, Luxembourg’s Minister of Health and Social Security, Martine Deprez, participated in the Wellbeing Economy Forum in Reykjavík, Iceland.

According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Health and Social Security, the forum, held at the Harpa Conference Hall, brought together policymakers, experts and international stakeholders to discuss economic models integrating social, health and environmental dimensions. This fourth edition was held under the theme “The Power of Wellbeing – Redefining Success”.

Through its participation, Luxembourg reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to international discussions aimed at strengthening public policies in favour of wellbeing, prevention and the fight against non-communicable diseases.

During a plenary session dedicated to the challenges of a wellbeing-centred economy, Minister Deprez highlighted issues related to the commercial determinants of health and stressed the importance of translating existing knowledge into sustainable action.

She noted that these challenges form part of broader dynamics requiring coherent and complementary approaches, and underlined the need for strengthened European cooperation, particularly for small states such as Luxembourg, in order to enhance the impact of prevention policies.

The minister also emphasised the importance of rebalancing investments in favour of prevention, health promotion and health education, with a focus on integrated approaches in everyday environments. She highlighted the role of professionals in healthcare, education and the workplace as key levers to support informed choices and promote healthy lifestyles.

On the sidelines of the forum, Minister Deprez held a bilateral meeting with representatives of Iceland’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing, including Permanent Secretary Erna Kristín Blöndal. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange best practices between small countries, particularly in relation to innovative approaches in social and public health policies.

The ministry added that this visit reflects Luxembourg’s intention to strengthen international cooperation and promote policies in support of a sustainable, inclusive and wellbeing-oriented economy.
