On Wednesday 26 November 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade hosted a press conference to present an overview of the country’s participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
Luxembourg took part in Expo 2025 Osaka, held from 13 April to 13 October 2025, with a national pavilion operated through the GIE Luxembourg@Expo2025Osaka partnership between the ministry and the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.
Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Foreign Trade, André Hansen, Commissioner General of the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, and Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, outlined the country’s overall results and visibility at the event, highlighting both the pavilion’s performance and the collaborative efforts of institutional and economic partners.
“Expo 2025 was a great success for us. We welcomed more than 378,000 visitors over the six months, and the Chamber of Commerce also drew very positive conclusions from the pavilion, where they had extensive contact with Japanese companies. These visitors learned a great deal about Luxembourgish companies and discovered Luxembourg itself. I am convinced that many of them now wish to visit our country, and several businesses have already shown interest in investing in Luxembourg,” Xavier Bettel told Chronicle.lu.
According to figures shared by the ministry, the Luxembourg Pavilion welcomed 378,866 visitors over the six-month World Expo, while the overall event in Osaka recorded 28 million visits. Nearly 1,000 Luxembourg nationals took the opportunity to discover the pavilion on-site. With a maximum capacity of 2,250 visitors per day, the pavilion operated at an attendance rate exceeding 95%.
The programme included six cultural events, three economic missions and seven conferences, ranging from design showcases and sector-focused economic missions to “Space Days”, “Cyber Security Days” and interactive creative workshops. The pavilion also hosted 65 official visits from high-level delegations, 95 Luxembourg companies, 127 journalists and 19 school groups.
Survey results highlighted strong public appreciation: 83% of respondents reported being satisfied with their visit, while 95.9% said they would recommend the pavilion. Moreover, 92.47% indicated they would consider Luxembourg as a travel destination after their experience at the Expo. Visitors were predominantly tourists (93.63%), with 95% coming from Japan.
