Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, visited Copenhagen in Denmark as part of the informal meetings of the Eurogroup and the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) from Friday 19 to Saturday 20 September 2025.

According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Finance, Eurozone finance ministers reviewed the Eurogroup's work programme until June 2026. They held an exchange of views on economic developments in the presence of the Chair of the European Parliament's ECON Committee. The ministers again discussed the digital euro. The points of convergence identified during the discussion are expected to enable the Danish Presidency to advance negotiations on the corresponding legislative text.

At ECOFIN, finance ministers discussed the need to simplify financial regulations to reduce the administrative burden and costs that weigh heavily on the private sector in particular and boost European competitiveness. The ministers also discussed, in the presence of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the structural reforms needed to strengthen productivity and competitiveness. They explored ways to overcome political obstacles to ensure concrete and sustainable results, both at the national level and within the European Union. In the presence of the finance ministers of Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Norway and Canada, the discussions focused on the economic consequences of geopolitical developments.

Minister Roth commented: "One year after the Draghi report, Europe must move more and become more competitive. With more innovation and less bureaucracy. At the same time, we must strengthen our stability and social cohesion. Internationally, Europe must demonstrate unity and bring people together, both internally and externally, including with its non-EU partners."

On the sidelines of the meetings, Minister Roth held a bilateral exchange of views with Belgian Finance Minister Jan Jambon.
