On Thursday 25 January 2024, the French Minister of the Interior and Overseas, Gérald Darmanin, and Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, signed two administrative arrangements relating to the strengthening of mixed patrols between the two countries, on roads and motorways as well as on board cross-border trains.

These two arrangements specify the modalities for implementing joint operations, authorised by the bilateral agreement on cross-border cooperation in police and customs matters of 2001 and European Union law.

These texts define the regime applicable to relations between agents, lay down the principles concerning uniforms and weaponry, and establish points of contact for carrying out patrols, monitoring cooperation and the modalities of support from local services.

A year and a half after the agreement reached on 11 July 2022 to lift the ten-kilometre limit in cross-border pursuits, this signature marks the commitment of France and Luxembourg to the prevention and repression of cross-border delinquency.

This new step in cooperation between the two countries was taken ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
