On Friday 5 January 2024, at the invitation of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, attended the tribute ceremony for Jacques Delors.

The ceremony took place in the main courtyard of the Hôtel National des Invalides in Paris, around ten heads of state and government, together with the leaders of the European institutions, honoured the memory of the former President of the European Commission.

In the presence of Mr Delors' family, the French President delivered a eulogy for the “inexhaustible architect of our Europe”. The Ode to Joy, the European anthem, rang out in the Cour des Invalides before the guests went to the Élysée.

In Paris, Luc Frieden also met Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, for a bilateral meeting which highlighted the “excellent relations” between the two countries.
