Wednesday 16 March 2022 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Republic of Korea.
This year, Luxembourg and South Korea are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, established on 16 March 1962.
On this occasion, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Luxembourg exchanged messages of congratulations with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Recalling that this anniversary marks an important step in the long history of collaboration between the two countries, which dates back to the Korean War when Luxembourg offered its support to the Republic of Korea, Grand Duke Henri expressed his hope for a further deepening of future bilateral cooperation.
Moreover, on Wednesday, Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, had a telephone interview with his South Korean counterpart, Chung Eui-yong, to mark this anniversary. The two Foreign Ministers welcomed their countries' excellent bilateral relations while agreeing to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the areas of air services, finance and research and innovation. The exchange also provided an opportunity to take stock of cooperation in multilateral forums, the war in Ukraine, as well as peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
