On Monday 14 March 2022, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke over the telephone.

This phone call, requested by Mr Zelensky, followed the Luxembourg Prime Minister's exchanges earlier that same day with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to Luxembourg's Ministry of State, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel agreed with President Volodymyr Zelensky on the need to put an end to the ongoing Russian attacks and establish a ceasefire as soon as possible - this also to allow humanitarian corridors to remain open and respected.

Luxembourg's Prime Minister reiterated his support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. He also highlighted the solidarity of Luxembourg, above all the people of Luxembourg, towards people fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Both parties have committed themselves to maintaining regular contact.
