At the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, attended the Sir Bani Yas Forum, which was held in Dubai in the UAE from 12 to 14 November 2021.

The Sir Bani Yas Forum has traditionally been part of the international community's efforts to promote conflict resolution in the Middle East. The initiative enables high-level informal exchanges between government representatives, business sector experts and academics on regional security issues.

The presence of several foreign ministers from member states of the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as African and Asian states, but also other personalities from the political world, enabled Luxembourg's Foreign Minister and the various other participants to conduct an in-depth exchange of views on the political situation in the region.

The discussions, spread over several interactive round tables, provided an opportunity to review the main international current affairs issues. This year, participants focused on the Middle East peace process, relations with Iran and issues related to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, as well as the situation in Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen.

Minister Asselborn took the opportunity of his participation in the forum to exchange views with several participants about the latest developments in the region. He also had a bilateral meeting with his counterpart in the host country, Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Finally, Minister Asselborn visited the Luxembourg pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. He stated that "the Luxembourg pavilion is remarkable and does honour to our country".
