Luxembourg's Crisis Communication Service has announced that, earlier today, the St. Marseille ship of the ST Management SAS group, flying the Luxembourg flag, was attacked by five armed pirates in the Bay of Cotonou in the Gulf of Guinea.

Two guards (from Benin) were wounded by bullets during the takeover by pirates. Among the crew members there are no Luxembourg nationals.

Without any cargo on board, the pirates eventually fled. The entire crew was not injured and is safe and sound. The two wounded guards have been hospitalised and their situation is described as stable.

Activated by the Office of the High Commissioner for National Protection in accordance with the "Maritime Piracy" emergency response plan, the Crisis Staff, including the Office of the Commissioner for Maritime Affairs, has closely followed the evolution of the situation.
