On Saturday 15 August 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) had deployed firefighters to Belgium to help tackle a large vegetation fire in the High Fens (Hautes Fagnes).

According to the ministry, the deployment followed a request from the Belgian authorities and an exchange between Luxembourg's Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden and his Belgian counterpart.

The CGDIS said it dispatched eleven firefighters and three all-terrain fire engines from the Frisange, Kehlen and Larochette fire and rescue centres to reinforce local firefighters battling the blaze, which had been active since Friday 14 August 2026 afternoon.

The CGDIS also reported that the firefighters were deployed to Baelen, Belgium, at 14:18 on Saturday, adding that no injuries were reported.
