On Friday 7 October 2016, in Hamburg, HRH the Grand Duchess attended, as a guest of honour at the gala lunch hosted by the "Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis" in honour of Ban Ki -moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, 2016 winner of the sustainable development awarded by the prestigious foundation.
"It gives me great pleasure to see that Mr. Ban Ki-moon has been rewarded for his commitment to sustainable development as Secretary General of the United Nations. He was able to make a priority in the international community. I welcome especially as the foundation that the award values in this way the work of United Nations organisations in their struggle for a more just and peaceful world" said HRH Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.
The lunch was attended by personalities from the political, economic, civil and media, as well as partners and organisers of the prize.
