On Tuesday 4 October 2016, the Mayor and Aldermen of the Ville de Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Red Cross and Luxembourg’s Doctors without Borders presented a summary of their drinking water supply project in Burkina Faso.
An initial agreement for cooperation was signed between 2009 and 2013 for the development of the Pabré district and was renewed for the period 2014 to 2018 as well as the implementation of a similar project in Dapélogo, to supply drinking water and improve sanitation in Burkina Faso. This week, the Ville de Luxembourg and its partners revealed a very positive summary of the project’s results. In fact, they announced that they had achieved their objective of improving the living conditions of those who had insufficient access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation services.
The project reinforces what began in 2010 as an attempt to provide the citizens of Pabré with good quality drinking water, help women and children carry water, improve the disposal of organic human waste, and provide the population with more knowledge and better practices concerning water quality and hygiene.
Moreover, the project has been successful in optimising the management of the municipal technical service, particularly in regard to an efficient and sustainable management of available resources.
