Luxembourg Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will be chairing the extraordinary 'Justice and Home Affairs' Council meeting in Brussels later this afternoon.
The special meeting, convened by the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will be dedicated to the topic of migration. Ministers present will look to strengthen and operationalise European measures in order to improve the situation on the ground. Discussions will also focus on monitoring and implemeneting the relocation process and decision-making regarding any further action.
Minister Asselborn is due to provide an overview on his recent joint visit with European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Dimitris, Avramopoulos, to Greece, in order to evaluate and improve the EU's response to the situation.
The meeting is being held on the same day as the extraordinary meeting of the 'Competitiveness' Council, also in Brussels, where ministers will discuss solutions to the current crisis faced by the European steel sector.
