Details:

Luxembourg's Grand Théâtre will be showcasing a performance of "The Sleeping Thousand", in English, on 8 January 2020 at 20:00.

Co-commissioned by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, Adam Maor and Yonatan Levy’s opera "The Sleeping Thousand" imagines the Middle-Eastern conflict as an epic fantasy. A thousand Palestinian administrative detainees, arrested in Israeli gaols without trial, go on hunger strike to capture the world’s attention. As international pressure mounts and the strikers’ health deteriorates, the Israeli state – represented in the opera by the Prime Minister, his assistant Nurit and the head of the Secret Service – resorts to an unconventional solution: it induces a comatose state in the prisoners and confines them to a high-security dormitory located inside the Prime Minister’s office...

Directed by Yonatan Levy and composed by Adam Maor, in collaboration with the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg with the United Instruments of Lucilin ensemble.
