Details: The opera, "Madama Butterfly" is coming to the Grand Théâtre in Luxembourg ville on 19 June at 20:00.

There aren’t many operas that have such an enduring hold on popular imagination than Puccini’s masterpiece Madama Butterfly. The tragic story of the young Japanese geisha Cio-Cio-San whose desires and hopes are cruelly deceived by a visiting American naval officer continues to move audiences around the world. While her true identity and motivations leave considerable creative freedom, her cruel fate remains unchanged: betrayed and abandoned by Pinkerton she commits suicide at the end.

This production by French actor-director Jean-François Sivadier – whose recent productions of both Barbiere di Siviglia and The Misanthrope triumphed in France last season – was his opera debut back in 2004. This revival boasts a stellar cast including rising star Serena Farnocchia in the title role and Puccini-specialist Antonino Fogliani at the baton. All in all a truly fitting finale to the opera season at the Grand Théâtre.
