Details: This year, a total of 15 Luxemburgish NGOs will be participating in the "Cinéma du Sud" film festival. The project was launched in 2010 to raise public awareness of themes related to development, through the medium ofcinema; This year, The Luxembourg Chronicle is delighted to be Media Partner to this festival / series of films.
The theme of the festival changes every year; in 2015 the focus will be on post-2015 development goals, for instance the following topics: consumption, peace, employment, education, gender equality, biodiversity, access to water, inequalities, hunger/nutrition and climate change.
Usually a significant proportion of the films are in English.
The concept of the festival in 2015 is one film per month (every second Wednesday of the month at 18:30 at Ciné Utopia in Limpertsberg), except for August and December. As every year, each movie will be followed by the intervention of an expert speaker and the public will have the opportunity to ask him/her questions.
The first film for 2015 is scheduled for Wednesday 14 January, with the screening of "Sacrée Croissance" by Marie-Monique Robin. While the administration is sinking into crisis, citizens propose alternatives and create the beginnings of a society based on environmental protection and sustainable development. With growth Sacred!, the filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin presents a selection of successful initiatives and viable alternative models worldwide in the areas of food production (urban agriculture), energy (transition towns) and the exchange of goods and services (in local currencies). Her film broadens the range of possibilities by showing how one can refute through action, not just in words, the dominant economic model based on growth at any cost. With a strong idea: facing global waste, the answer must be local and solidarity.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the audience in the presence of Mr. Francis Schartz, President of the Supreme Council for Sustainable Development (CSDD). The evening event is organised with Attac Luxembourg, Caritas Luxembourg, Frères des Hommes and SOS Faim.
