Details: On Sunday 12 October, the traditional Veiner Nëssmoort (Nut Market) will take place in Vianden, where visitors may taste many nut-based foods and sample cakes, cheese and even liqueurs.

The preparations for the market started weeks ago, and today, on the eve of the event, each association will harvest their nuts either in the traditional way with long wooden sticks or with the joggle-machine, which facilitates and speeds up the process. After the harvest is completed, they must wash and dry the nuts to be ready for selling.

Also, a very unique part of the Nut Market is the "Nëssdrëpp" (Nut Schnaps), which requires lengthy preparation. To make the liqueur, the nuts must be picked early, while the paring is still green and they are still small. Then you let them soak in brandy, and once they’ve reached maturity, the Schnaps is ready to drink, serving as a pleasant digestive.

The Vianden town centre will be closed Sunday to traffic (Rue de la Gare and Grand Rue) between 10:00 and 19:00. Visitors are advised to park in the “Park & Ride”, where a free shuttle will be available to take them to Mont St. Nicolas and the Oranienburg Hotel located at the foot of the castle. Moreover, the tourist-train “Benni”and a bus are available for those coming from the “Camping du Moulin” site in the valley.
