After the success of their comeback record “King Animal”, the Seattle grunge pioneers Soundgarden continue their reunion this year with a reissue of their earliest recordings. A collection which include their debut EP “Screaming Life”, bonus tracks from its follow-up “Fopp”, and material first included on a Sub Pop compilation album.
Soundgarden recently scheduled an epic run of European and American live dates including a stopover at the Rockhal on 24 June 2014! Get ready for an incredible and unmissable show! There may be thunder this summer!
With two Grammy Awards and over 21 million records sold worldwide, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. At the dawn of 2010, the band, Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, announced a new beginning. In the last three years since Soundgarden has reunited, they released their first retrospective, “Telephantasm”, which was certified platinum, their first live album, “Live on I-5”, penned the end title song, "Live to Rise," for the feature film The Avengers and headlined sold-out shows and festivals around the world.
All of this activity has been the prelude to Soundgarden’s full-on return in 2012, when they released their sixth album “King Animal” in the fall of 2012. With 83.000 units shipped in the US within the first week, it peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band’s reunion has been a huge success.
Soundgarden have always possessed a real ability to combine darkness with immense grooves, as heard clearly on the sinuous “Taree” and it’s this that lifted them above their more thrashy, punk rock bar band peers. The thirteen sturdy tracks of “King Animal” carry this compositional attitude into the 21st century. “King Animal” undeniably draws its strength from the band’s accessible “Superunknown” era, but also takes Soundgarden somewhere fresh. A “Thousand Days Before” is rolling and melodic, and “Blood on the Valley Floor” almost sensual.
