Details:
On 6 December each year, the Kleeschen (St Nicholas) brings gifts to children throughout the Grand Duchy. From the end of November, children leave their slippers outside their bedroom doors at night for the Kleeschen to bring sweets. On the morning of 6 December, well-behaved children receive presents. However, those that have misbehaved will receive a twig from the Kleeschen's companion, the Houseker.
St Nicholas Day is a holiday for primary schoolchildren in Luxembourg.
A traditional Kleeserchersdag / pre-Christmas (breakfast) snack is man-shaped brioche bread called Boxemännchen.
