Details:

On Saturday 11 January 2025, the Cercle d’Escrime Luxembourg will host a Fencing Open Door Event at the National Fencing Centre in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

Doors will open at 10:00 for all visitors at 90 Rue Ermesinde, L-1469 Luxembourg. The event is open to everyone, with a particular focus on youngsters aged ten and over.

According to the Cercle d’Escrime Luxembourg, the event “will give you the chance to try – and love – the sport.”

Fencing is known for developing a range of skills, including concentration, precision, confidence, tactics, speed, flexibility, balance, dedication, and the ability to win and lose gracefully.

The Cercle d’Escrime Luxembourg is aiming to grow its membership and participate in more international competitions. The club is also seeking additional sponsorship to expand the services it offers to its members.

Fencing has a long history in Luxembourg, with the first club founded in 1954 for the armed forces. Over the years, Luxembourg has produced several Olympic fencers, including Colette Flesch, Romain Manelli, Alain Anen, Remo Manelli, Jean-Paul Olinger and Robert Schiel.

The Cercle d’Escrime Luxembourg offers classes twice a week, divided into two age groups. Training sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays:

For fencers under the age of fifteen: 17:00-19:00
For fencers aged fifteen and over: 19:00-21:00

The club welcomes boys and girls from the age of eight, with fencers competing on an equal footing. However, international tournaments and competitions are segregated by gender.
