Details: The British Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg is holding a members-only Afterwork Conference & Networking Cocktail on Thursday 4 July 2013 from 17:30 at the premises of Allen & Overy (33 avenue J.F. Kennedy, L-1050 Luxembourg-Kirchberg).
Gilles Dall'Agnol and Catherine Di Lorenzo of Allen & Overy will speak about the many and varied implications for people using their own computer/iPad/Tablet, etc., including employees, employers and anyone working independently, with focus on labour laws and data protection implications.
"Bring your own device" is a phenomenon currently in vogue. It relates to the practice by which employers authorise their employees to use their own IT devices (e.g. Smartphones, computers) in the context of professional business activities. "Bring your own device" triggers numerous and diverse reactions: pragmatists see it as an element of retention for young managers or a cost reduction measure; more critical voices consider it as a gadget for CEOs, an encroachment on privacy and more.
In any case, beyond such discussions, this matter raises a certain number of legal challenges, especially in the fields of labour law and data protection. The speakers will present a structured review of these challenges and provide practical answers.
As to labour law aspects, the conference will deal in particular with topics such as: Who will bear the costs of acquisition and maintenance of the device? What usage rules should apply? How can they be implemented? What sanctions can be ordered in cases of violation of these rules? Regarding data protection, the main focus will be on IT security and the employer's ability to access professional data. This topic is closely linked to the monitoring of employees at the workplace, which is why the rights and obligations of employers in this field will also be addressed.
The evening will begin with registration at 17:30. The presentations will begin at 18:00, followed by a Q & A session with the audience. From 19:30 there will be drinks and canapés kindly offered by Allen & Overy Luxembourg and the opportunity to network. Allen & Overy client parking will be avalaible (rue Richard de Coudenhove-Kalergi).
Venue: Allen & Overy (33 avenue J.F. Kennedy, L-1050 Luxembourg-Kirchberg).
