Details:

Amnesty International Luxembourg, together with the Comité pour une Pax Juste au Proche Orient, are organising another march, calling for an end to occupation and a ceasefire related to the war in the Gaza strip.

It is being held this coming Saturday 3 March 2024, starting at 14:30, from the Glacis car park (assembly point beside the Theatre Tram Stop) and will finish up at the Square Jan Palach on the Place d'Armes at around 15:30.

According to Amnesty International Luxembourg, "the situation in Gaza was recently described by the International Court of Justice as a “humanitarian nightmare”. The siege preventing humanitarian aid from entering, combined with the attacks perpetrated by the Israeli army, will only increase the death toll of more than 28,000, including 11,000 children, more than 19,000 orphans, and more than 68,000 injured in the Gaza Strip. While 1.9 million people have been displaced to the south of the enclave, where attacks continue to take place – some without a legitimate military objective – the risk of genocide is real and it is imperative to achieve as much as possible. quickly to a permanent ceasefire. Furthermore, in order to guarantee a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, the occupation of the Palestinian territories must be stopped".

Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, said: “Israel’s occupation of Palestine is the longest and one of the deadliest military occupations in the world. For decades, it has been characterised by widespread and systematic human rights violations against Palestinians. Furthermore, this occupation favoured and entrenched the system of apartheid imposed by Israel on all Palestinians”.

According to Amnesty International Luxembourg "Therefore, it is essential to challenge our political decision-makers and encourage them to take a position for a permanent ceasefire for all parties and an end to Israel's occupation of Palestine".
