Details:
The Luxembourg Commission for UNESCO and the Lëtzebuerg City Museum are organising a lecture on the subject "Towards the recovery of the culture sector of Ukraine, protection of the cultural heritage in conflict zones" at Cercle Cité in Luxembourg-Ville on Thursday 19 October 2023 at 18:00.
This lecture, held in English, forms part of the Luxembourg Commission for UNESCO's events cycle "Les Rendez-vous de l'Unesco".
Krista Pikkat, UNESCO's Director for Culture and Emergencies, will talk about the protection of cultural heritage in conflict zones, with special emphasis on the situation in Ukraine following the launch of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. To date, UNESCO has verified damage to almost 300 cultural sites in Ukraine.
In her lecture, Krista Pikkat will provide an overview of UNESCO's latest initiatives and partnerships with other countries to address the challenges that cultural heritage faces in times of conflict. The lecture also aims to raise awareness of the importance of verifying the provenance of art objects to prevent trading of illegally acquired cultural objects.
Overall, this event aims to encourage international collaboration in protecting cultural heritage and ensuring its preservation for future generations.
This free lecture is open to all audiences. To register, contact the organisers via tel.: 4796-4500 or via email: visites@2musees.vdl.lu.
