The Forest Service of the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL), in collaboration with the Nature and Forest Agency (Administration de la nature et des forêts - ANF), is organising an open day (D’Stad am Bësch) for the general public on Saturday 12 November 2022 from 10:00 to 18:00 at Devashaff, 105, Rue des Sept-Arpents, L-1149 Luxembourg.

A fun experience for the whole family

Participants will be able to familiarise themselves in a fun and adventurous way with the wood trades as well as the many missions and daily tasks of the Forest Service and the Nature and Forest Agency.

About 50 stands, workshops, exhibitions and guided tours will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the forest and to discover its natural and fascinating product that is wood. Visitors will learn the principles of silviculture close to nature, ranging from the choice and planting of trees, to the maintenance of biotope trees, through the selection of trees for their in-situ transformation into furniture. Different sustainable management techniques, like the traditional work with draft horses which is complementary to forestry machines, will also be presented.

The day is particularly aimed at children of all ages who will be able to participate in various workshops which includes climbing trees, awakening to natural sciences, DIY workshops, storytelling related to the forest and wood. The little ones will also be able to discover the many wild or domestic animals that contribute daily to the natural balance of the forest and orchards.

A large part of the stands are also accessible to people with reduced mobility and food and drink stands will also be on site.

A free shuttle will run every 20 minutes between the Glacis field (easily accessible by tram and bus) and the Devashaff. First departure starts at 09:40 and the last return is sceduled for 18:20 p.m. The number of parking spaces near the site very limited.

Registration

Workshops: as the number of participants for certain workshops is limited, visitors are asked to register at reception as soon as they arrive on the site.

Fruit tree pruning training (Course 1: 10:30, Pruning young trees and Course 2: 14:00, Pruning old trees): prior registration is compulsory via tel.: 4796-2565 or email to forets@vdl.lu indicating the name, a telephone number and the title of the desired course.

The Forest Service recommends clothing adapted to the forest terrain and weather conditions since all activities will take place outdoors.
