Details: BCC Evening Business Forum: Luxembourg Tax - Challenges for the Future

The British Chamber of Commerce is organising an Evening Business Forum on Wednesday 15 May 2013 on the topic "Luxembourg Tax - Challenges for the Future". The event is being held at the premises of KPMG (5 rue des Primeurs, Strassen) starting at 18:00, with His Excellency Mr Alphonse Berns, the recently-appointed Director of Taxation at the Ministry of Finance. He will address hot topics including FATCA, the Financial Transactions Tax (FTT), Exchange of Information and the OECD “Base Erosion and Profit Shifting” report.   

After studying International and European Law at the University of Aix-en-Provence, Mr Berns joined the Luxembourg Diplomatic Service in 1977. Postings ensued as Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels and Director for International Economic Relations and Development Co-operation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His previous ambassadorial appointments include in Washington, Brussels and London. He also spent a number of years as his country’s top civil servant, as Secretary-General of both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence.   

Mr Berns’ keynote speech will be followed by short presentations by Julien Bieber, KPMG; Jonathan Norman, KPMG; Christophe Joosen, NautaDutilh; Cédric Schirrer, Wagener & Associés and Romain Tiffon, Atoz, who are members of the BCC Tax Group, on: the Luxembourg Treaty Network; Exchange of Information; Transfer Pricing and Substance considerations.  

This will be followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Karl Horsburgh, International Audit Services Sarl, during which the speakers and Mr Berns will be happy to answer questions from the audience.   

To close the evening, a buffet dinner will be provided and, as always, the opportunity to meet and discuss with fellow Chamber Members. The event should end around 20:30.
