
In its latest report, Luxembourg's statistics agency, Statec, has confirmed that salaried employment continued to grow into the first quarter of 2022.
The number of salaried employees in Luxembourg grew by 0.9% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. Over one year, this represents an increase of 3.8%.
Trade, transport, accommodation and catering activities were up 4.4% over one year, as well as administration and other public services which grew 4.3% over one year, were among the most dynamic branches during this period.
For administration and other public services, Statec accounted this favourable development from the central administration and hospital activities.
In the branch of trade, transport, accommodation and catering, restaurant activities recorded the most significant growth.
In terms of quarterly changes, specialised activities and support services were up 1.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021 whilst trade, transport, accommodation and catering activities also recorded 1.2% net growth.
The number of cross-border workers increased (up 1.1% compared to the previous quarter) slightly more than that of residents (up 0.7%). Year-on-year, the number of non-European Union residents increased by up 13.3%, compared to 2.2% for Luxembourg residents.
