Luxembourg's Inspectorate of Labour and Mines carried out 283 workplace inspections in 197 companies across 174 sites during the collective leave period.

As part of its mission to prevent occupational risks and protect health and safety in the workplace, the inspectorate carried out nearly 300 checks between 31 July and 23 August inclusive, in the construction sector, and between 3 and 23 August 2020 inclusive, in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning sector. 

During these checks, the inspectorate forced thirteen construction and civil engineering companies to halt work immediately, as they continued unauthorised work during  the collective leave period. A further three companies, working in the area of heating and air conditioning installation, were forced to stop unauthorised work. Five other companies were required to stop work for 48 hours due to the presence of what was considered to be an imminent and serious danger to the health and safety of employees in the workplace.

The inspectorate also shut down 55 construction sites following the detection of various breaches in the area of ​​occupational health and safety. 

In addition, work on three projects had to be stopped due to the discovery that three employers had employed a total of thirteen third country nationals who did not have a work permit. One employer received a €25,000 fine for illegally employing ten such individuals.

Two companies were forced to stop work for having employed teenagers under the age of 16 and 15, respectively.
